Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are very thin and strong shells that are bonded to your teeth in order to improve their appearance. They are designed to look like natural teeth and are a good option for individuals who want to enhance the look, shape and size of their teeth without using braces.

Advantages of Porcelain Veneers

Dr. Elizabeth Kilpatrick-Fox, DMS, has the experience and expertise to provide porcelain veneers to her patients. If you are a candidate for this procedure, you will get the following benefits:

  • Versatile Alternative to Teeth Whitening and Braces – Porcelain Veneers are more effective than teeth whitening if your teeth have very dark spots. They are also a great fix for individuals with crooked or chipped teeth and a quick solution to cover any gaps between the teeth.
  • Natural Look – Porcelain veneers are indistinguishable from your natural set of teeth as they are created to match the color, size and shape of your teeth. Our porcelain veneers are custom-made for all our patients.
  • Longevity – Porcelain veneers are very resistant to stains from tea, coffee and smoking though we suggest that you quit these habits for the sake of your oral health and overall wellbeing. Nonetheless, rest assured that your veneers will not lose their beauty quickly if you take proper care of them.

The Procedure for Porcelain Veneers

During your first visit, Dr. Fox will assess your candidacy for this procedure. She will also explain the procedure to you so that you can decide whether this is the best option for getting a bright smile. A few things you should be aware of are:

  1. Applying porcelain veneers is a process that cannot be reversed. You will have a difficult time if you ever want to remove them.
  2. The application process is rather long and multiple visits to the dentist are needed.
  3. Your teeth may be sensitive for a few days due to enamel removal. However, this condition will last for a week at most.

To initiate the procedure, Dr. Fox will reshape some of your tooth to make room for the porcelain veneer. Some of your tooth enamel will be removed as a result. A resin-based adhesive will then be used to bond the veneer to the tooth. Depending on the type of adhesive, Dr. Fox will either harden it using a special curing light or by leaving it for a few minutes.
