Dental FAQs

How do you keep patients comfortable during dental procedures?

Dr Fox is licensed to prescribe medicine that will put anxious, stressed, or fearful patients at ease. Our team understands the fine art of customer service; and with a gentle touch and inviting presence, we can help you enjoy complete peace of mind and body during your visit to our office.

I am missing some teeth. Can I regain comfortable chewing, easy speech, and self-confidence without using a removable appliance?

You can use dental implants, the closest prosthetic to natural teeth. They are composed of small titanium posts and are implanted into the jaw. Since this structure imitates nature, dental implant patients enjoy a strong, comfortable, fully functional smile that lasts a lifetime.

Are dental x-rays safe?

Yes, they are. The amount of radiation you receive from dental x-rays is very low. Even then, our dental staff is careful to limit the exposure. That is why we use safeguards like high-speed film and lead protectors or aprons.

What is the cause of tooth decay/cavities?

Four things are necessary for the formation of cavities

  • A tooth
  • Bacteria
  • Sugar or foods that release sugar (like carbohydrates)
  • Time

Plaque is a thin, sticky deposit of bacteria that forms on teeth. These bacteria react to the sugars produced from the foods you consume, forming acids which attack your tooth enamel. The longer your teeth are exposed to these acids, the more likely your tooth enamel will break down and cavities will form.

When is professional tooth cleaning required?

At times, due to a lack of proper oral care, you may develop tartar. It is a hard deposit that can form due to the accumulation of plaque. As it cannot be cleaned by simply brushing your teeth, you will need to visit a dentist to have it professionally removed before your health is affected further.

Is tooth extraction painful?

No, it is not. In fact, removing a normal tooth that is damaged or decayed is very easy and painless. The dentist will numb the affected area and pull out the tooth with a special dental extraction tool. However, the removal of a wisdom tooth can be a little painful and recovery may take a few days depending on your condition.
